Dan’s Pre-Cast Ltd. was started in 1972 by a father and son team. We began by serving only the Cowichan Valley. Our company started as a backyard manufacturing business with a ready-mix truck to deliver the concrete. The company evolved quickly, moving to where we are presently located in Duncan. Dan hired Neil as his first employee and they were on a roll ever since, expanding their product line and eventually building a batch plant and assembly line. With the growth of the production side of the company, Dan’s grew its fleet of crane trucks to accommodate. Although we now offer crane work, septic tanks will always be our first priority.
The company grew with the wastewater industry, working closely with leading engineers develop products. Dan’s became known not only on Vancouver Island; we are known throughout British Columbia for building one of the first of the largest tanks.
In the spring of 2007, Dan sold the business to his key employee Neil. This was something they had talked about early in the company’s history. Neil had been working with Dan in every aspect of the business, and he was no stranger to the challenges that can occur in the industry. Furthermore, Neil was always looking for ways to improve products and production. It was because of Neil’s extensive history with the business that the transition of ownership went relatively unnoticed – it was business as usual.
Today, Dan’s Pre-Cast is a family run business, with Neil at the helm and his son Ernie working every aspect of the company. Recently, Ernie has started on taking some tasks that Neil would have previously completed and is proud to be carrying on in his father’s tradition. Neil’s wife Joanne has also joined the group and began working in the office.
Neil is our owner and certified crane operator. He has over 40+ years of experience. He has worked with many engineers throughout the province, all of whom appreciate his straightforward talk and valuable experience. His honest approach to business has always served him well. Some call him Ace.
Ernie has taken over managing Dan's Precast. Ernie, Neil’s son, has now been with the company for over fourteen years. Like father like son, he is a natural at operating the crane. Ernie has worked every aspect of the production line and is knowledgeable about all aspects of the business. Ernie has taken many steps lately to improve our processes and bring Dan's Precast to another level.
Ben is also a certified crane operator and truck driver for the company. Ben has over 25 years of experience with Dan’s Precast. Ben takes on most of our most difficult sites and always gets the job done. On the occasions when customers just don't see how we can get a truck into a clients backyard, we send Ben. No plastic tank required, just a very skilled driver.
